They are futher more trained according to SAE AS6286 Training and Qualification Program for Deicing/Anti-icing on the Ground and in addition they are always updated according to the latest publication of the SAE AS6285 Aircraft Ground Deicing / Anti-icing Processes on the Ground

 Training as deicer

The history of winter operations clearly shows that deicing/anti-icing plays a vital role in flight safety.

Regrettably even within the past few years incidents and accidents have happened due to improper winter operation procedures. Investigations has shown the causes to be deficiencies such as inspection or the determination for the need of deicing/anti-icing, the de-icing/anti-icing procedure itself and the negligence/misinterpretation of holdover time.

Factors leading to these errors are mainly poor training

The area of deicing training shall be divided into the following parts: theoretical, practical and recurrent.

Each part shall have a test to verify the correct procedures. The theoretical parts shall have a written examination with a passing rate of min. 80% and the practical part should have a demonstration of skill.

Levels of qualification

The qualification level should be clearly defined. Each qualified person shall be fully aware of their approved functions. A suggested structure for levels of qualifications is listed below. A person may hold several approvals depending on the job function. Levels are divided into the following groups:
